Fueled by globalization and cultural imperialism, the dynamic of dependency is enforced via debt/loans, multinational corporations (including the tourist industry), and the exploitation of resources for external profits. Behind the guise of national sovereignty, this system leaves the power dynamics of colonialism intact.
