Well, damn it. Just lost my whole post trying to do a link to Serena’s blog- copied the link right over my post, which I guess was on the clipboard and probably still is somewhere but I don’t know how to get it.
At least, I can do this now:
Serena, et al, this is what I think of Eben and Jennie being in love.
oh my old post was so good.
New Post. Head out on Route 2, you’ll find it. I think. It’s not much of a town. Sorry.
Here I go. I think that people who are in silly stupid selfish love may still be in something like love. I’ve not been able to find lasting romantic Love in my life, but I’ve found plenty of love, and some of it is good and some is bad and most is somewhere in between. They are an interesting couple, if only because one is a time-traveling pseudo-spirit muse creature. Like I said in class, I think this book gets its power out of the way it mirrors real life, romanticising it into something freaky and beautiful. After all, what doubt could Eben have, with someone time-traveling to meet him…
I’d say they are in love, just like any of a number of couples I know that are doomed to failure because their love is ill-founded. But, to quote Millay,
“After all my erstwhile dear,
My no longer cherished,
Need we say it was not love,
Just because it perished?”
