I have been thinking about how Scottie gets vertigo in the film and how it basically paralyses him. I don’t think that it is unusual for a person to be paralyzed by death or love. In real life sometimes this occurs, maybe not in the form of vertigo, but in different ways. People can get so obsessed or caught up in a relationship that their world revolves around it in the same way Scottie’s world revolves around “Madeline.” When someone dies, even if it is not your significant other, often times people close to the deceased take quite a while to get back to normal, often becoming depressed or constantly thinking about the death and the deceased. Scottie’s vertigo seems to be his cover up for these emotions he feels in trying situations.
