I really enjoyed this movie. The characters seemed so human, and downright adorable. I especially liked the older man who kept a gopher tortoise and a possum in a cage in his backyard. He, along with the other characters, just seemed so genuine. He knew his realm in the world and accepted it fully, and that is why I so adored the people in this film. They made no pretentions, but simply accepted their lot in life. I wish I could have as much passion for something as the turkey hunter had for his chosen hobby.

I was conflicted at first, wondering if Morris was actually poking fun at these “southern folk”. But I got the feeling after completing the film that he truly had an affection for these people, and it came across strongly in the film. They were nameless and void of traditional “character development”, but were still totally unforgettable.

Disregarding metaphysical questions, I found it fascinating how these people are more or less forgotten, and yet they come life on film. It seemed as though this movie served as a reminder about the value of all human beings and the depth of thought that goes on in seemingly “average” people.
