Little Women: A Final Look

Little Women is a novel published in 1868 and written by the American author Louisa May Alcott. The story concerns the lives and loves of four sisters growing up during the American Civil War. The book was based on Alcott’s own experiences as a child in Concord, Massachusetts with her three sisters, Anna, May, and Elizabeth.

Several movies have been based off of the novel, Little Women. In the 1949 version, directed by Mervyn LeRoy, the most noticeable diversion from the novel was the fact that Beth March (Margaret O’Brien) is portrayed as being the younger sister to Amy March (Elizabeth Taylor), while in the novel she is older.
